Twentymile Trail
Depart at 8:00 am from the Cooper Visitors Center
Length: 8 miles
Elevation Gain: 1200 feet
Rating: Moderate
Travel Time: 90 minutes
Activities: Hiking, photography
Leader: Bev Hawkins 458-9708 bevhawkins@aol.com
This hike ascends the Twentymile Trail to the junction with Long Hungry Ridge Trail, and then on to campground #92 where there is ample seating for a trail lunch. Twentymile Creek parallels the route most of the way, and there are many opportunities for water photography including Twentymile Cascade. The trail is an old logging road in good condition, however, there are three, wet but easy, small creek crossings. Most of the elevation gain is in the first three miles, and there are some steep sections. Note that this hike requires driving the Tail of the Dragon, US Hwy. 129, and some hikers have developed motion sickness on this road.
Hiking boots and hiking stick(s) are recommended. Bring ample water and a trail lunch.
Driving Directions: To be provided the morning of the hikes.
Car-pooling is recommended and will be set up the morning of the hike. Passengers are asked to contribute $5 to the driver to help cover gas etc.
