Chestnut Top

Chestnut Top Trail

Chestnut Top is an excellent early spring hike when many wild flowers bloom.

"But even after the fire pinks fade from view and the crested dwarf irises go to seed, keep walking this trail. It's a joyous walk whenever you can get to it. The trail winds up and along Chestnut Top Lead (Lead is a local term for ridge) jumping back and forth from dry piney slopes to cooler mixed hardwoods. A fall or winter hike will offer excellent views across Turkey Penn Ridge and up the valley of the West Prong of the Little River to Thunderhead Mountain."
